I am 42 years old but I honestly believe that my life started over on February 21, 2013 when I had the gastric sleeve procedure.
I owe a debt of gratitude to my nurse practitioner for suggesting the procedure and asking a former patient “if she would object to talking to me about her experience?” which she graciously did. I am also eternally grateful to Luis Reyes, MD for performing the procedure. It is critically important that a patient choose a surgeon that is qualified and skilled in his expertise and I can honestly say that about Dr. Reyes. He embodies these characteristics and I would recommend him to anyone who is seriously considering having weight loss surgery.
It has been 40 weeks (10 months) and I have lost 118 lbs. just from the success of the surgery alone! Unfortunately, I was and still am battling injuries to my: neck, shoulders, arm, low back, left leg and left ankle, which prevented me doing any exercise. Although the weight loss surgery has not done anything to improve my injury(s); what it has done is reduce the amount of weight that my body was forced to carry and that in and of itself is a major improvement!
It’s true when the doctor and his support team tell prospective and former patients that the weight loss surgery is a tool and it is up to the recipient to follow the dietary recommendations because it can mean the difference between success and failure. The weight loss surgery can and does work. I am living proof of it! I believe anyone can achieve success, even those who are immobile, as long as they are determined and committed to embracing a positive lifestyle change.
